Jacob had had a lot of fun with the children from Lord Stanbridgeâs first marriage, Hugh and Collins. Theyâd played soldiers and swords all around this house. Theyâd broken ornaments, ruined a family portrait, and nearly killed the family pet by mistake. They had been thorns in the servantsâ sides. Those had been fun times. Thinking about it now, Jacob could not help but chuckle.
He made his way to the library, where he, Hugh and Collins had done most of their mischief under the guise of reading. It had not changed a lot in the last twenty years or so. There were additions to the collection, and the walls had been repainted, but that was about it.
